A single unobtrusive dormer provided essential headroom for a stair that transformed this Victorian. By creating a cozy new owners’ retreat at the top of the home, we made room for a calm and efficient home office, convenient laundry, and a new front deck along with the children’s rooms on the second floor. Our work on the third floor also enabled a complete energy retrofit while leaving much of the interior undisturbed. From the outside, we installed continuous exterior insulation, high tech wrap, and high-performance windows. Rooftop solar now serves much of the home’s energy demand, including the new Air Source Heat Pumps that condition the upper two floors.
