History and efficiency

Townsend

Originally built in 1790, this home’s elegant 18th and 19th century detail suffered deferred maintenance and ill-conceived changes during its interim life as a boarding house. The clients engaged Aurora for our skilled integration of modern building science with the art and craft of respectful renovation. We secured the exterior envelope with dual-pane divided-light windows, insulation, and all new but historically accurate siding and trim. The pinnacle is a custom crafted, glorious, weather-tight double front door with matching screen doors. Inside, we seamlessly integrated old and new, from restoring the unique curved plaster walls and wainscoting gracing the front receiving rooms to reorienting rooms and elevating finishes throughout the second floor.
