Enlightened cottage

Hay

An artist engaged us to bring light and modern comfort to this enchanting 1925 Arts & Crafts cottage, while retaining the eclectic spirit of its original creator, architect/artist Nelson Chase. We raised the cramped 7’ ceiling of the primary bedroom to a cathedral with skylights, exposed collar ties, and built-in eaves storage. We insulated, installed new windows, and re-shingled the exterior – all in-keeping with the home’s quirky artisan style. Aurora founder Nat May and his brother, cabinet-maker John May, recreated the original grape arbor that shades the back door.
