To convert this two-family to a single-family home — and keep to a strict budget — we had to get creative. We combined pre-fab kitchen cabinets with custom details chosen for their charm and cost-effectiveness, such as a butcher block island top and rustic pine flooring. Because the clients were tall, we custom-built the counters to a height they could use with ease.
